Ama serwah Genfi, also known as Amaarae, is a Ghanaian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer. She was born on July 4, 1994.
She gained notoriety after the release of “Fluid,” a popular song from her 6-track debut album, “Passionfruit Summers EP.” Amaarae grew up in New York, US, where she was born.
Early Life and Education
Amaarae was raised in Atlanta, Georgia and Accra, Ghana. She was born in New York to Ghanaian parents Ama Bawuah and Kwadwo Boateng Genfi.
She is the more senior sibling of two. When Amaarae was 13 years old, she composed her first song.
When she was a teenager, she loved to watch music videos, and one of her favorite memories is of watching the video for Kelis’ song, “Young, Fresh n’ New.” Her idea came from the distinctive expression Kelis had.
Amaarae started creating mixtapes while still in high school, and at the age of 17, she began an internship at a recording studio.
